Waaaaay late to the ROW80 Party – Check In
Unfortunately I discovered the ROW80 blog waaaaay after the start of round 2 of the writing challenge. But that’s ok, I’m simply going to check in and use the last two weeks of round 2 to see how I do and see if it’s something I think I can stick with.
So, my measurable goals for the next two weeks will be to:
1) Turn my graphic novel treatment into a script by writing at least one script page per day (This has been a WIP for several months now. I cruised though the outline and treatment phases, wrote 5 pages of the script and then just stopped for some reason. I think maybe I got scared or something. Just all of a sudden I put the brakes on the whole thing and can’t seem to face it anymore, strange.)
2) Draw every day (This could be a little or a lot. I may quickly sketch a rough panel layout or meticulously focus on a single panel, but I need to get in the habit of drawing every day.)
That’s it guys, for the next two weeks I want to be a writing/drawing fool. I’m really struggling with a bit of stare-out-the-window-itis, so whatever encouragement you could provide would be more than appreciated. I think I caught a bit of that depression bug that’s been going around too, so “boo-hoo’s” and “poor me’s” for everyone, I’m buyin.

A graphic novel into a script, hmm . . I’m not all that familiar with graphic novels, or with scripts for that matter, but it sounds intriguing, and I’ll be checking back to see your progress.
I like your “drawing every day” goal. I may do a version of that for round 3. 🙂

I should clarify, I wrote a story treatment from an outline, a first person narrative describing every scene. From that, I now have to write a script that an artist (or myself) can use to draw each of the panels in the graphic novel. You become sort of an art director breaking down a story board frame by frame.

Ah, write to draw, I see. I’ve had an idea for an illustrated “life of my cats” book for quite a while, and I have most of the writing part done for that, but none of the drawing part. I hope to revisit it after I get my first novel published. Who knows when that will be. lol
